24 years ago today we won the Inter Toto

What are your memories of the game?
I remember reading a few on here saying they were in Metz (at the marvellously named Stade Saint-Symphorien), and that it was a terrific night.
It was a massive shock to have finally qualified for the UEFA cup after all those years of trying.
Starting the campaign early for the Inter Toto helped us get off to a fantastic start in the League too, if I remember correctly.

Saw the dire first leg in a Magaluf. Got very, very drunk and was happy to make it home to Soller that night. Didn't bother to watch the next leg and so learnt my lesson.

Great trip,great memories and great game
Remember after game went into large pub/bar with loads of West Ham and there was massive Metz flag so my mate tried to set it alight,bar staff removed the flag and still served us!

I went to this
My overriding memories were of shock that we actually won it !
We did play them.off the park that night
Post game, sitting in the town square having a few beers
Occasionally our celebrations interrupted by local scrotes looking for a fight, nobody could be bothered !

Remember it well. It was my first gig in Paris. Summer in Paris when it was still a cool city. Man Ray, Buddha Bar at it's peak ..etc .
Left work early to catch the train to Metz. Great game.

I don't remember too much but I do remember seeing Louis Saha for the first time. At least I think it was him, as I said I don't remember too much

I remember nothing of the actual football match
I'd spent a few days in Paris then got train to Metz the day before the match. Stayed in the worst hotel I've ever been in - doors wouldn't lock, cig burns on sheets, electric wires hanging down from ceiling in corridor, chemical toilet in shared corridor.
Spent the whole day of the match walking around Metz trying to find another hotel for the night of the match. Eventually found one (obvs they were all booked out to us already).
My main memories of the match were being in the crowd, one of the Police having this massive waxed moustache like in Poirot episode, our lot throwing coins at their winger, a fat steward getting really upset at some of our lot repeatedly climbing the fences facing onto the pitch and bringing a fire extinguisher and spraying those climbing who just laughed whilst he was doing it. Started two chants for the only time in my life at fatty "who ate all the snails" and "you're not spraying anymore" as he was led away by fellow stewards looking like he was about to cry.
I'd just recovered from breaking my collar bone and told the bloke behind me not to jump on me if we scored. He proceeded to jump all over me each time we scored.
Local paper next day front page was all of our fans in the main square with headline something like "Glorious Bubbles of Beer".
No idea what happened in the match though.

Ferry from Dover then train to Paris with an overnight stay there, Travelled to Metz by train the next morning, checked into our hotel and Metz were having their pre-match meal and meeting in the same hotel. Went out to find a bar and the Metz team were in the hotel bar relaxing.
Great performance, great atmosphere, great trip.

Went to the home leg, Louis Saha goal iirc
Was on holiday in Salcombe for the away... watched it in a pub on my own and literally no one else in the place gave a fuck

Was there as well along the side, great night - also went to Heerenveen, Jokerit, Osijek/Croatia/Italy for a week and England games in Warsaw and Glasgow along with a couple of extra trips to Holland all in space of about three months
Unsurprisingly work told me to fuck off when I put in for time off to get to Bucharest

My one and only European away trip. So I have a 100% record.
What a great day. Got the coach early in the morning. Exchanged wanker signs with the Rangers fans in the other coach at Calais. Took fucking ages to get to Metz. Found a boat that was also a pub and West Ham completely took it over. Then turning round a 1-0 deficit to win the tie and qualify for Europe for the first time in 18 years. Even the stewards blasting our fans with water couldn’t dampen the occasion. Metz fans in the other parts of the ground even clapped us off at the end.

a qualifying tournament to the Eufa Cup which we failed in the qualifier and we finished 5th in the EPL All looks crazy now imagine the crying now if you finished 5th and had to do this to get into Europe proper .
